Edward Groody, President

ED GROODY and his team of consultants have been helping companies get exceptional results and create a Spirit of Community in the workplace since 2001. Ed specializes in helping leaders implement change in a way that engages and honors people. He has facilitated highly successful financial and cultural turnarounds in a variety of industries and corporate settings. He is a leader in utilizing innovative change, leadership and team building methods.

Prior to starting Ed Groody & Associates, Inc. he served as Director of Organization Development with Covenant Health, a large health care system serving East Tennessee. Ed is one of a handful of individuals to train and work with M. Scott Peck, M.D. renowned author of The Road Less Traveled and developer of the innovative group and team building process called Community Building. Ed was also a part of the leadership group that organized and facilitated the first men’s conferences with renowned poet and author Robert Bly in Minnesota in the 80s and 90s. Ed has a special interest in bringing a Spirit of Community into the workplace.

Kurt Meyer, Vice-President of Client Services

KURT MEYER has recently joined Ed Groody & Associates as Vice President of Client Services. In that capacity, Kurt is primarily responsible for business development and maintaining a high service level in EGA’s client relationships.  In prior professional experiences, Kurt served as Senior Director of Business Development at Signorelli & Associates, Inc. a technical training firm specializing in the medical device and software industries.  He also founded and grew an award winning company in the home improvement industry.

Kurt has a special interest in leadership and personal development and has served in the non-profit sector helping persons dedicated to improving their personal and family lives.  Throughout his professional life Kurt has been passionate and successful in assisting individuals, groups, and organizations achieve positive change.

Kurt and his wife and two children spend as much time as possible enjoying the North Country cabin life and skiing, canoeing and hiking near Lake Superior. He is also religiously devoted to Boundary Waters fishing trips and lives for the day when the Twins defeat the Yankees in baseball’s playoffs.






Michael Simms, Senior-Consultant Contact

MICHAEL SIMMS specializes in both successfully initiating and sustaining lean improvement efforts in manufacturing, government, Healthcare and other industries. He draws on a wealth of practical experience and wisdom from over 25 years as a plant manager and lean consultant. He is the former general manager of Wainwright Industries, where he implemented unique personnel and quality improvement systems, including documented best practices in safety, leadership development, and employee engagement. His efforts contributed to Wainwright earning the 1993 Missouri Quality Award, the 1994 Baldrige Award, and the 1996 Industry Week Best Plants in America Award. He specializes in working with middle managers and supervisors, supporting their roles and responsibilities in fostering high levels of employee involvement and creativity. He is a champion for the award winning Small Improvement and Interdepartmental Feedback Processes.  Mike worked with SSM Health Care prior to SSM earning the 2002 Baldridge Award.

Mike holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Saint Louis University.



Tim Dempsey, Consultant 

TIM DEMPSEY is an executive with over twenty years experience establishing and expanding community organizations with extremely tough missions and a track record of developing high performing diverse teams of dedicated individuals with a common mission and complementary work styles. Tireless work habits, natural systems thinker, and keen insight into lean technologies especially in the context of service organizations. Driven by quality, creativity, and lasting change.

Jean Handley, Senior Consultant

JEAN HANDLEY is a coach, facilitator, trainer, and mediator and has been facilitating Community Building worldwide since 1996. Jean specializes in facilitating innovative leadership and team development trainings utilizing Community Building technologies. In 2001 she founded and directed Turning Point Partners, a non-profit organization promoting Restorative Justice and practices. She also is a consultant for Restorative Justice & Restorative Practices, Community Building & Mindful Communication processes and training for government, private, cooperative, non-profit and the legal community. She was nominated in 2005 for the 1000 Women for the Nobel Peace Prize.



Ann McMaster, Consultant 

ANN MCMCASTER’S focus is bringing leading edge ‘human technologies’ into the corporate culture, revitalizing performance, creativity, and profoundly affecting the bottom line. Ann empowers employees to take ownership of the organizations’ issues and challenges, while enabling them to learn from everything that happens.

She began the journey into the corporate sector while she lived in South Africa, where she consulted with insurance companies, engineering and law firms, banks, hotels, and some sectors of the new South African government. Ann continued on, and gained an international reputation as a mentor and trainer in breakthrough processes and techniques that enable both individuals and corporations to reach their fullest potential.

One of Ann’s many specialties is her ability to continually diagnose a corporate culture and design and deliver highly evaluated interventions, team building skills and executive leadership competencies. She excels at giving team members and leaders the tools that maintain the attitudinal and behavioral shifts that they learn in the workshops.

She has trained corporate teams throughout the world including the United States, Great Britain, New Zealand, Colombia, Trinidad and South Africa for BP, Total, Unilever, Georgia Pacific, Capella University, and many others. Ann also trains and coaches internal capability, supporting corporations to sustain their forward progress. Her creativity and ingenuity have been enhanced by many years of working as a successful psychotherapist.
